Applying Technology to Industry
I broadly define myself as a data analytics professional. The majority of my career has been spent on the development and application of data reporting tools to improve operational decision making and efficiency.
Problem: the facilities team needs to know the state of their campus for an upcoming round of funding. Deliverable must be easy to access, understand, and operationally useful.
MEP condition assessment. Agree on scope of planned toolsets. Data editing and conversion. Widget creation and deployment. Link multiple dashboards in a unified platform. Automate data upload for future edits by the client.
Problem: a small logistics team is in need of a better system to track their assets. Additionally, their TMS is outdated and ineffective for their needs.
Transport network assessment. Justification for new technology. Hardware installation and data collection. Data conversion and cleanup. Integration into existing TMS or deployment of a new enterprise system. Training team members.
Problem: a large distribution company is losing money based on inefficient distances driven for deliveries. A solution is needed quickly.
Review current depot locations and number of drivers assigned. Take each customer location and weight by sales + other important criteria. Use all cities with greater than 100k residents as potential siting location. Run closet facility analysis based capacity constrains. Gradually, relocate depots and drivers.
Problem: a large organization with thousands of employees dispersed widely needs a better way to track, account, and manage their equipment.
Review of available data. Floor plan creation and inventory accounting. CAD to polygon conversion. Inventory association. Data upload. Dashboard deployment. Training team members.
Seamless Integration
Wherever I have worked I have tried hard not to initially disrupt existing workflow processes. Sometimes that has taken the form of building on existing ecosystems or altering (rather than a total teardown) of software/hardware. I have found that prior to making institutional change you first need to build trust through a proven record of success.
